“As a violin luthier, I couldn’t have picked a better school to learn the fine craft than North Bennet Street School in Boston’s North End. Violin Making and Repair was established at North Bennet Street School in 1984 and is one of the few full-time instrument-making schools in the United States. The three-year, hands-on program taught me the fundamental skills and knowledge required for the repair, restoration, and set-up of stringed instruments in accordance with the highest standards of the craft and the needs of expert musicians.
After completing my training, I spent the next ten years honing my skills at Vermont Violins in Burlington, Vermont—an invaluable chapter in my career where I worked closely with professional players, students, and collectors. My time there deepened my expertise in precision restoration, fine adjustment, and sound optimization, while strengthening my appreciation for the relationship between musician and instrument.
Now, I’m taking the next step into my own spotlight with Marcus Bretto Violins, LLC. As an independent craftsman, I’m proud to offer the same exceptional quality and personal attention that have defined my work from the start. You can trust me as your violin luthier—I will treat your instrument with the utmost care, and you’ll receive top-notch service built on experience, integrity, and passion for the art of violin making.” Click here to contact me.
